Bajirao Mastani May Well be The Most Costly Indian Film: Bajirao Mastani is an upcoming drama movie of Bollywood to be presented by Sanjay Leela Bhanshali and it’s a dream project of Bhanshali. After the much ado on its casting, a talented cast of Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra were roped in. Previously, there is a talk that actor Shah Rukh Khan has geared up the main lead opposite gorgeous Kareena Kapoor Khan. The film is made on a staggering budget of Rs.210 Crores and Bhanshali’s Bajirao Mastani may well be the most costly Indian film to be produced ever. The period epic to be Co-produced by Eros International goes on the floor at the end of the year.

The film is expected to recreate a chapter of Maratha history that would require mammoth expenses. Says a member of the team, “Sanjay has earlier made a very lavish period film Devdas. But there he could allow his imagination to control his budget somewhat (although at `65 Crores. Devdas was one of the most expensive films of that time). But in Bajirao Mastani there can be no compromises. Every detail has to be authentic.”

Says a source close to the project, “Though the film is named after Mastani (Deepika) the other woman in Bajirao’s life, Kashibai has an equally important role in SLB’s script.” Interestingly, PC plays the less aggressive Kashibai. And while DP plays the title role, PC’s role has been rewritten to suit her stature as an actor. Apparently, SLB intends to dress Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra in costumes woven from threads used in the the era of Bajirao Peshwa. Says the source, “The clothes, jewellery, armoury, locations and sets would be as authentic as possible. There will be no compromise on quality. In terms of scale and pitch SLB’s role model for his historical is K Asif’s Mughal-e-Azam.”

Recently, the news was lot of buzz that Priyanka and Deepika will be seen dancing together in Bajirao Mastani and that’s true. SLB’s logic was simple and audience would feat cheated if the two didn’t share screen space. Ditto with Bajirao Mastani, where Kashibai and Mastani, Peshwa Bajirao’s two lovers, will share screen space. SLB will give them a lot of confrontation sequences and a dramatic dance-off (like he did with Dola Re Dola in Devdas).
